Ta grupa z San Francisco powstała w 1967 roku trafiła szybko (rok 1968) pod skrzydła Bob'a Shad z
Mainstream Records. Ta mała,  niezależna wytwórnia specjalizowała się w odkrywaniu nowych,
ciekawych i  nieznanych wykonawców (m.in. - Bohemian Vendetta, The Jelly Bean Bandits, Orient
Express). Na pierwszy ogień poszli Big Brother And The Holding Company (pierwsza płyta), a drugi
kontrakt został podpisany właśnie z The Growing Concern. W maju 1968 roku - John Pedley, Ralph
Williams, Pete Guerino, Ralph Toms, Dan Passaglia wspomagani przez dwie wokalistki : Bonnie
MacDonald i Mary Garstki - jako zespól o nazwie The Growing Concern, nagrali swoją pierwszą
(jedyną) płytę - "Growing Concern" (1968, Mainstream Records, nr S/6108, US)  przy osobistym
nadzorze Bob'a Shad.

Album był promowany singlem :
- "A Boy I Once Knew Well" / "Tomorrow Has Been Cancelled" (1968, Mainstream Records,
nr 685, US)

Krótko po wydaniu albumu, grupa The Growing Concern przestała istnieć.
