The Charles  -  większość członków zespołu pochodziła z Florydy i tam też  (Fort Myers, okolice Tampa) należy doszukiwać się początku tej grupy pod koniec lat 60-tych. :

 

- Mike Tice  (1944 - 2012)  -  bass  (Michael Charles Tice, ur. 10.03. 1944r. Brigham City, Utah, zm. 18.05. 2012r., gdy miał 11 lat wraz z rodziną przeprowadził się (1955r.) do Fort Myers, Florida, współzałożyciel zespołu

w którym był do zimy 1969r.)

- John Valby  (ur.1945r.)  -  organ, piano, guitar  (z Rochester, New York)

- John Wyatt  (ur. 1946r.)  -  guitar  (do zimy 1969), póżniej bass  (właściwie Willie Wyatt z Fort Myers, Florida)

- Eric Bach  (ur. 1947r.)  -  drums  (właściwie Eric Stumpf z Fort Myers, Florida)

- John Adams  (ur. 1945r.)  -  guitar  (właściwie Adam Lee z Cocoa Beach, Florida, w zespole od zimy 1969r.)

Steve Tice  (1946 - 1998)  -  manager zespołu  (Stephen A. Tice - młodszy brat Mike'a,  ur. 29.09. 1946r. Alliance, Ohio,  zm. 13.07. 1998r., od 1955r. wraz z rodziną mieszkał w Fort Myers, Florida).

The Charles (1970), L-R : John (Adam Lee) Adams,  John Valby,  Eric Bach (Stumpf),  John (Willie) Wyatt

Latem 1969r. grupa przeprowadziła się do stanu New York  (Rochester, Buffalo, Cheektowaga).

Nazwę zespołu wymyślił Willie Wyatt  (z dwóch propozycji - "Charles" i "Fred" - członkowie zespołu wybrali tę pierwszą).

Jedyny singiel zespołu został nagrany w Rochester :
