Lil' Boys Blue  (California - US, Garage Rock)  -  mało znane zespoły

Larry Diehl  (Lawrence L. Diehl z Mountain View, CA, ur. 15.06. 1947r., absolwent Fremont High

School, Sunnyvale, CA) - gitarzysta, wokalista z Doliny Krzemowej, podzielił się ze

mną swoją muzyczną historią z lat 60-tych  (Larry - wielkie dzięki za informacje i materiały).

Już jako dziecko  (miał około 3 lata)  uczył się podstaw muzyki, a nauczycielem był jego ojciec

Larry Diehl Sr.  (gitarzysta, kontrabasista, specjalizujący się w muzyce country western, występował

w wielu lokalnyh zespołach).

Pierwszy publiczny występ  Larry'ego miał miejsce w lokalnym kinie w 1951r.

Dziesięć lat póżniej miał już swój pierwszy zespół  (trio - gitarzysta, perkusista i saksofonista) o nazwie Tri-Tones. Inspiracje czerpał od Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Elvis Presley i  przede wszystkim Richie Valens.

Rok 1962 był bardzo istotny w życiu muzycznym Larry'ego - The Beatles, pojawienie się surf music i

zawarcie znajomości z nowym mieszkańcem Sunnyvale, CA - David Westberry  (David Anthony

Westberry, ur. 30.03. 1947 Fort Benning, Georgia, w latach 1961 - 1965 uczęszczał do Fremont High

School, Sunnyvale, CA)  który niedawno przeprowadził się z Bellingham, WA - "Cześć, nazywam

się David Westberry, przeprowadziłem się tutaj  [Sunnyvale], gram na gitarze i słyszałem, że ty też.

Czy chcesz założyć zespół ?". Ten kontakt telefoniczny Davida z Larry'm zaowocował powstaniem

nowej grupy - The Conquests :

- Larry Diehl  -  lead vocals, lead guitar

- David Westberry  -  rhythm guitar, background vocals

- Alan Ramsey  -  bass, background vocals

- Rick Puncochar  -  drums  (Richard John Puncochar, ur. 10.04. 1946r.)

- Ed Willis  -  keyboards

- Jim Boulton  -  saxophone  (James Boulton z Sunnyvale, Fremont High School).

Około 1965r. wraz z nadejściem "British Invasion" nastąpiła zmiana stylu na "English Sound" i nazwy  (którą wymyślił Ed Willis)  -  Lil' Boys Blue :

Larry Diehl - " Hi Paul,

Here’s a flyer for a show we did with the Syndicate of Sound. Roller skating arenas became quite popular as venues in the mid 60’s. Promoters would rent them out for an evening and erect stages at either end. We played a lot of dates with our friends, The Syndicate. They were in my opinion, the best South Bay band of the era. "

Grupa często grała w Lacy's w Los Altos i Whatzit Club w San Jose. W San Jose Civic Auditorium

wystąpiła otwierając koncert The Dave Clark Five. Brała udział z dużym powodzeniem w konkursach "Battle Of The Bands",  w większości zdobywając pierwsze miejsce.

Zasięg działalnośc zespołu obejmował cały stan  (California), Las Vegas w Nevadzie  (Teen Beat

Club w Las Vegas), głównie w rejonie San Francisco Bay Area. 

W Golden State Studios w San Francisco grupa Lil' Boys Blue nagrała singiel :

- "I'm Not There"

- "Take You Away",

wydany w pierwszej połowie 1966r. na etykiecie Bat Wing Records  (private press, nr kat 2003)

a także dwa inne utwory :

- "Just For Laughs" i "Reason Why", o które zapytałem Larry'ego :

Larry Diehl - "Hi Paul,

I don’t think there’s much of a chance for releasing the other two songs. I lost track of the source mag tape some years back. I will see if I have any recordings of the recordings, but if so the quality would I’m sure be quite poor. Still looking for some pictures for you and will send along soon.

W drugiej połowie 1966r. w okresie rodzącej się muzyki psychodelicznej, wraz ze zmianą stylu

po raz kolejny zmieniono nazwę zespołu na - The Hilton Trolley. Niestety to był już ostatni

okres działalności Larry'ego i jego kolegów. Nieudane rozmowy kontraktowe z Epic Records,

spowodowały odejście Ed'a Willisa, a w dalszej kolejności Davida Westberry'ego  (31 grudnia

1966r. poślubił Carol Colaccio, a póżniej został powołany do armii).

Ostatecznie, piękna muzyczna przygoda Larry'ego  z lat 60-tych, zakończyła się w 1967r.

Poświęcił się pracy zawodowej  (35 lat związany z firmą Hewlett Packard)  ale nigdy nie

zapomniał o muzyce i często  (jak tylko zdrowie pozwala)  do niej wraca.

By the way, since this interview surviving members include me, Rick, Jim, Ed and Dave. We are scattered around the US from California to Iowa to Tennessee to New Mexico to Hawaii. I did have an occasion to have lunch with Rick last year in California when he was passing through. Rick is now and has been for some years now a contractor in a Nashville where he runs a successful construction business. He keeps one foot in music, throwing large birthday bashes with some of Nashville’s best musicians. I haven’t really stayed in touch with the other boys, so no real hope of a Lil’ Boys Blue reunion 😎 I’m currently in discussions with Keith Greeninger (musician/producer/engineer) at Wind River Studios in Santa Cruz Ca. to co-produce my third solo album. My website is down but if interested you can find my music at all digital outlets and on Reverbnation. I have not been performing much lately due to a series of health setbacks. Now feeling  strong again so probably time to get back out there. Of course, touring in ones 70’s is quite different than touring in ones teens. It just might be time for me to add a rider to my contract that specifies a nap between sets. Ha! ... "
