The Glass Threads (Illinois - US, Garage Rock) - mało znane zespoły
Grupa z Cairo (Illinois, US) działająca (circa 1963/64 - 1967) od wszesnych lat 60-tych, początkowo
jako The Road Runners (circa 1963/64 - 1965), następnie The Mods (1965 - 1967) i w końcowym
okresie przyjęła nazwę The Glass Threads (1967) - w składzie :
- Don Dickerson - lead vocals, saxophone (Don Lee Dickerson, ur. 12.03. 1947r.)
- Kyle Lehning - keyboards, trumpet, guitar, vocals (Kyle K. Lehning, ur. 18.04.1949r.
- Charlie Sullivan - bass (Charles "Goose" Sllivan, ur. 02.08. 1942 Cairo, IL, zm. 28.09. 2005)
- Neal Needahm - guitar (Nead C. Needham, ur. 08.01. 1945, zm. 16.01. 2014)
- John Steinhouse - drums (John P. Steinhouse, ur. 25.05. 1949r., zm. 09.10. 2009r., The Mods i
The Glass Threads), a także :
- Leon Murphy - drums (The Road Rnners i początkowy okres The Mods).
W okresie działalności (circa 1963/64 - 1967) występowała na obszarze trzech stanów :
- południowym Illinois
- zachodnim Kentucky
- wschodnim Missouri.
Posiadała klub dla nastolatków o nazwie - The House Of Mods, gdzie promowała lokalne zespoły.
W czerwcu 1967r. nagrała (Paducah, Kentucky - studio Tommy Morrisa) singiel (jedyne wydawnictwo
zespołu) :
- "Monday's Fading" (Lehning - Dickerson)
- "You'll Know The Pain" (Lehning - Dickerson),
wydany tego samego roku na etykiecie Snap Records (45-001) - wytwórnia należąca do Ray Butts z
Nashville, TN (inżynier dzwięku w RCA Studios).
Grupa zakończyła działalność jesienią 1967r. gdy Don i Kyle podjęli studia na różnych uniwersytetach.

- when and where was The Glass Threads formed?
The Glass Threads was the third name of the band. We started as the Road Runners around 1963-64. We became the Mods about '65 and the The Glass Threads in '67.

- where and when was the single recorded?
The Single was recorded in June of 1967 in Paducah, Kentucky at Tommy Morris' studio. The musicians listed above are the musicians on the recording. I'm not exactly sure of the release date of the single. Snap records was a label owned by Ray Butts. Ray lived in Nashville and was an engineer at RCA Studios. Ray invented and built the Echo Sonic guitar amplifier that Scotty Moore used when backing up Elvis Presley in the mid 50s.
The Glass Threads recorded one other song at the original session, but I don't remember the name of it. We do still have a tape recording somewhere but I'd have to dig it up.
No other singles were ever released by the group.
The Glass Threads performed in southern Illinois, western Kentucky and eastern Missouri from 1963-1967. We disbanded in the fall of '67 when Don and I went to separate universities.
I'm sure Don will have other info to add. He has lots of pictures if they might be needed.

"...Cannot even begin to tell you the stories and fun we had. We played outside for several thousand students at Southern Illinois University....the police finally shut it down because we were too loud and the students rioted....they were throwing bricks in the air, police in riot gear with police dogs.
Would have gone to jail if the police captain wasn’t one of Charles’ hunting buddies. This kind of thing was normal and continual and generally we somewhat innocent. We played at a night club that the mob burned down. That night a well dressed guy kept telling us we needed to take our equipment home that night...they burned it to dust. Radio was big in the 60’s. Kyle and I picked the songs that came out on the radio that week and the band rehearsed them Wednesday night. We played almost every weekend and tried to have the latest tunes. ..."
