Bodkin (UK) - " Bodkin " (1972, Heavy Prog Rock)

Bodkin (UK) - Bodkin (1972, Heavy Prog Rock)

koncert z Wishbone Ash w College of Art w Aberdeen. Pieniądze zarabiane z koncertów były
przeznaczane na coraz lepszy sprzęt z myślą o nagraniu swojej pierwszej płyty. Przełomowym momentem kariery stał się udział w konkursie młodych talentów rockowych w Wlk. Brytanii
została nagrana w studio Central Scotland w Falkirk. Została wydana przez West Records w roku
1972 w bardzo znikomym nakładzie - 100 egz. Była ona sprzedawana wśród fanów na koncertach
zespołu, a także jeden egzemplarz otrzymał słynny disc jockey John Peel. W niedługim czasie
muzycy postanowili rozwiązać zespół. Powodem tej decyzji były ciągłe konflikty rodzinne członków
zespołu i rozczarowanie brakiem wzrostu popularności pomimo wydania płyty. Część muzyków
grała później w różnych lokalnych grupach.

  1. Woow for me is it cool blog, a lot of interesting information (and most importantly - of reliable) ... surprises me only no comments .... but this is only info (without a link to download ... I think that's is the problem) for me this is irrelevant because 90% these albums is already on my shelf, and information about these groups, sometimes with a candle to look !!!

On the Comet Records website, were you can purchase this self-titled Bodkin LP, it says "File close to Black Sabbath." This music had no similarities to the heavy metal godfathers' recordings. The only thing that was comparable was the inference to Satanism with the burning cross and the offertory head of a ram. What you will find most intriguing besides the music however is how the LP was packaged. The sleeve the album comes housed in has so many folds you will think that you are doing origami. The album cover actually folds out into what you see pictured here, and it is quite large. You can use it as a poster if you wish because the actual LP has its own self-contained sleeve built around the poster. There is no doubt that this is one of the more unusual LP's I have had the pleasure to listen to and enjoy from the label since I started covering their product in 2000. One of the unjustly neglected British bands of progressive rock , which released one album and sank into oblivion . BODKIN Group was formed in Scotland in 1970 , when musicians from different villages of Scotland decided to team up and play the music, what they liked . Despite the age difference, they all shared a love for progressive rock . Prior to that, only the drummer Dick Sneddon had in his broad background in the music world - he played in a variety of bit - groups , performed in Germany in the famous "Star Club " . He joined the band in the last turn , when BODKIN looking for a new drummer.

    1. Thanks for the good opinion of the blog. I try to keep the information accurate. In most cases, the blog will provide information about the little-known performers, not necessarily having the achievements of very good ones.

Best regards and thanks again for your very professional comments

  2. The album - "Bodkin" It was recorded in the studio Central Scotland Falkirk. It was released by West Records a year 1972 very negligible limited edition of 100 copies for sale to fans at concerts. The famous disc jockey John Peel also received a copy of the album. Citing the words, drummer Dick Sneddon , " We recorded the album in one take . The studio was very cold and we had to play as soon as possible to keep warm. Our organist could easily play at once on five bodies ." If collectors are now hunting for this album and are ready to spread for him a fabulous price , then in 1972 , the band seemed no one was needed . Musicians continued to play , but their families have demanded more attention, and the lack of popularity forced them to break up . Many members of the group went on to play in other local groups.

Listening to this album today , do not understand how so talented musicians could stay completely unnoticed. The whole album is based on the continued roll calls Organ Hammond and heavy guitars, despite the length of some songs , the album never becomes monotonous , full of emotion , and most of this " drive" . The first side of the plate is a composition "Three Days after Death" in two parts. This article was written under the impression of a mini- bus accident , witnessed by the whole group was returning from a concert late at night. The first part begins with a powerful solo alternate Hammond and the guitar , which is gradually transformed into a peaceful and spiritual vocal line , and then followed by incendiary parties to Hammond and the guitar. It seemed , nothing special, but everything is done creatively and tastefully . The second part of the song begins with a quiet, Hammond, and then returned to the theme from the first movement, played in a new way , but also aggressive and tough. Torment Hammond is replaced by vocalist singing a sad , soulful guitar that accompanies the game , reminiscent of WISHBONE ASH. Then again shows class organist , playing at exorbitant rates . "Aunty Mary's Trashcan" also begins with the classic theme on the organ , followed by a party of vocalist and guitarist and organist again " come off " in the alternate soloed . Indeed, such a wild solo on this track , it was rare to hear at the time. And the organist is just superb. And it is an album of musicians from the Scottish heartland . Other tracks on the album are also good

At the moment, most of the musicians BODKIN continue to enjoy a quiet life in his Scottish villages. Guitarist Mick Riddell engaged in gardening , bassist Bill Anderson has since switched from bass to guitar and became a professional musician. The most difficult fate befell the organist Doug Roam : he became a miner in South Africa.
@ kossoff1963 Thx for the effort!
    pozdrawiam,
