The Purple Canteen  (Arkansas - US,  Psych Rock)  -  mało znane zespoły

To jeden z najlepszych zespołów "klasycznego" psychedelic rock, używając terminologii - "mało znane zespoły".

Zespół powstał w 1967r. w Goobertown / Jonesboro  (Arkansas, US) i  w okresie działalności  (1967 - 1969)  przeszedł wiele zmian personalnych :

- Jim Johnston  -  organ  (z Goobertown)

- Terry Taylor  -  lead guitar, vocals  (Terry L. Taylor z Jonesboro, ur. 12.08. 1951r.)

- Danny Reed  -  bass  (z Brookland, AR)

- Jim Wheeless  -  drums  (James Walter "Jim" Wheeless, ur. 18.09. 1946r. w Hattiesburg, Mississippi,

   kiedy był małym chłopcem wraz z rodziną przeprowadził się do Jonesboro, zm. 14.03. 2018r.)

Roger Roush  -  rhythm guitar. vocals  (był członkiem pierwszego składu Purple Canteen, przypuszczalnie odszedł jeszcze przed nagraniem singla).

Ricky Copeland  -  drums  (perkusista pierwszego składu, zastąpiony przez Jima Wheelessa).

Don Nall  -  guitar  (zastąpiony przez Terry Taylor).

Dwa pierwsze, znalazły się na singlu  (jedyne wydawnictwo zespołu) wydanym w 1969r. na etykiecie

Alley Records  (AS - 1049).

Pod koniec 1969 lub na początku 1970r. Terry Taylor wspólnie z muzykami lokalnych zespołów

(Tuesday Blues,  The Blue And The Grey)  powołał do życia nową formację o nazwie Dust  (niebawem na blogu).

Napisał do mnie Terry Taylor, przekazując cenne informacje o zespole.

Terry T. Taylor :

"... Thank you for your interest in the Purple Canteen. I joined the band in 1967, replacing guitarist Don Nall when he joined the US Navy. This was at the height of the Viet Nam War when lots of people were being drafted or enlisting to get of the draft. I was 16 years old when I auditioned and was hired that same night.

The other members of the band at that time were Roger Roush,12 string guitar, Danny Reed, bass guitar, Jim Johnston, organ, and Ricky Copeland, drums. Ricky was replace by Jim Wheeless on drums when he joined the US Air Force. When Roger left the band we decided to go on as a 4 piece group. This is the line-up that recorded the 45 record: Myself-guitars and vocals, Jim Johnston- organ and vocals, Jim Wheeless- drums, and Danny Reed-bass. The band disbanded in the summer of 1969. When we discovered the resurgence of the record, we got together and worked on some new songs in the studio. Nothing has been finished or released as of yet. I will let you know when we finish some of the recordings.

The only recording that Dust did, was a few demo tapes that can be found on some of the Psych of the South releases. Thanks again for your interest.  Terry Taylor ... "
