 The Maniax  (UK, Freakbeat)  -  mało znane zespoły

Dzięki uprzejmości Petera Greena  (wielkie dzięki za świetne informacje i zdjęcia zespołu), 

z wielką przyjemnością mogę Państwu przedstawić grupę The Maniax.

Grupa The Maniax powstała około 1963r. w Bourne  (Lincolnshire, UK) i stanowiła kontynuacje

działającego od około 1962r. zespołu Eddie & The Devilettes.

Pierwotnie w zespole występowali :

- Ian Wright  -  drums

- Peter Green  -  guitar, vocals  (w póżniejszym okresie basista The Maniax)

- Mick Fitzgerald  -  bass  (zastąpiony wkrótce przez Paul James).

W 1964r. do zespołu dołączył brat Ian'a :

- Allan Wright - Hammond organ,

a rok póżniej (1965) :

- Mick Bannister  -  lead vocals.

Tego samego roku (1965)  z zespołem pożegnał się Mick Fitzgerald. Nowym członkiem

zespołu został :

- Johnny Franklin  -  guitar.

W okresie działalności, grupa występowała praktycznie w całym kraju - początkowo (głównie)

w East Midlands i East Anglia, a póżniej  (gdy stała się profesjonalnym zespołem)  grała, m.in. w głównych miejscach w Londynie, w tym : 100 Club, The Dorchester, The Gargoyle, itp .

Odejście Mick'a i Allan'a zakończyło działalność zespołu w 1966r.

Peter Green - napisał :

"... Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I’m away from home at the moment. Anyway on to the Maniax.

As you are aware The Maniax followed on from Eddie & The Devilettes who started around the summer of 1962, becoming the Maniax around the summer of 1963. I played guitar as well as bass and only switched to bass around the time the band went professional. 

The Maniax went through a number of personel changes; initially it was Ian Wright (drums), Johnny Franklin (lead guitar), Mick Fitzgerald (bass) swopping with Paul James,  myself (guitar & vocals) Alan Wright joined the band in 1964, with Mick Bannister joining the band in 1965. In addition I wrote all of the bands original material.

We played all over the country, but mainly the East Midlands and East Anglia. However once the band turned professional we played major venues in London including the 100 Club, The Dorchester, The Gargoyle etc.

The Maniax single was recorded at Tony Pikes Studio in Putney, no sessions musicians were involved and the line-up for the recording were, Ian and Alan Wright, Peter Green, Johnny Franklin and Mick Bannister on lead vocals. The Maniax split up in 1966 when Mick decided to return to Boune and Alan left the band for a while. Ian, Johnny and I carried on,adding a girl singer called Sheen. She went on to found Toto Coelo, who had several  hits in the 1980’s.

In addition to the Maniax I played in a number of groups including; Astakhan Moon, Indigo Mood, The Diary, Jigsaw, The Mastersounds, The Regency, The Tudors, Brotherly Love and Maqsuerade. After a number of changes Masquerade went on to become Son Of A Gun in 1975 and had several singles out on RCA. ... "
