Juggernaut (UK, Psych Prog Rock) - nieznane zespoły
Kilka lat temu, na moim byłym kanale na You Tube umieściłem wszystkie nagrania ze wspaniałego,
kompilacyjnego wydawnictwa Transworld Records (ultra rzadkie i bardzo drogie albumy) :
- "Samantha Productions Volume One" 1969/70, SPLP 101 (pomarańczowa okładka)
- "Samantha Productions Volume Two" 1970, SPLP 102 (niebieska okładka),
zawierającego utwory promujące nieznane, lokalne zespoły.
Po kilku latach wrócilem do tego tematu aby przedstawić zebrane informacje o tych nieznanych
(zapomnianych) grupach dla których była to jedyna publikacja prezentacji dorobku artystycznego.
Każdy z zespołów zaprezentował jeden utwór.
Dziś, świetna, progresywna formacja Juggernaut (na płycie opisana pod nazwą Juganaut).
Miałem sporo szczęścia, udało mi się nawiązać kontakt z byłym perkusistą zespołu - John Lewis
Burnip (od 2006r. mieszkający w Australii), który uzupełnił moje informacje o tym zespole.
Juggernaut (przypuszczalnie wcześniejsza nazwa - Powerloom) - grupa z Reigate (Surrey, UK)
do której w 1969r. dołączył (na kilka miesięcy) perkusista - John Burnip (póżniej, m.in. w
Mr. Big - a.k.a. Burnt Oak).
W tym czasie (1969) grupa Juggernaut - występująca w składzie :
- Ray Rhodes (17 lat) - lead guitar, songwriter
- Phil Nestor (17 lat) - bass
- John Burnip (19 lat) - drums
- Bob Stone (19 lat) - organ,
nagrała (studio w Chelsea, producent - Leslie Kong) utwory na pełny album (niestety nigdy
nie został wydany).
Jedno z zarejestrowanych wówczas nagrań :
- "A Taste Of Hell",
trafiło na kompilacyjny album - "Samantha Productions Volume One".
John Burnip, po zagraniu kilku koncertów z Juggernaut i sesji nagraniowej w Chelsea, miał poważny
wypadek samochodowy który na pewien czas zastopował jego karierę muzyczną.
Odszedł z zespołu, a na jego miejsce grupę zasilił perkusista David Oberle (póżniej wraz z Phil Nestor w formacji Gryphon).
W 1970r. grupa wystapiła jako support wschodzącej gwiazdy Canterbury Scene - zespołu Egg.
Przypuszczalnie Juggernaut zakończyli działalność około 1971r.
John Burnip - napisał :
"...Wow this is weird, for some reason I was thinking about this yesterday. Yes I am the John Burnip who played and recorded an album with the band Juggernaut if I remember correctly in 1969 possibly 1970. I had been told that one of the tracks was on a compilation album. You probably know more than I do. I now live in Australia and am still playing and recording music at the ripe old age of 70. ... "
"... As far as I know the album was never released and U don't know if there was ever a title. I vaguely remember that we recorded it in a studio in Chelsea and the producer was the guy who had had a big hit with a song called The Israelites. Yes it was the beginning of that band, I had only been in the band a short while and only played a few gigs with them. Unfortunately not long after we recorded it I had a serious car accident and had to leave the band for rehabilitation. I did bump into Ray the guitarist a few years later at the Marquee club in London when I was playing with another band. Unfortunately I have lost all contact with him, but would like to know how he is if you are in contact ... "
"...I don't have a photo, sorry. Ray and Phil I remember and I think maybe Bob Stone but not David Oberle, maybe he joined after I was forced to leave after the accident. The band was based in Reigate Surrey which is where Ray lived, I joined in 1969 I think but the band existed before that and as far as I remember it was spelt Juggernaut.. I seem to remember Ray was friends with Trevor Beaton who later managed Cockney Rebel. This is all a bit hazy it was a long time ago ..."
