"...Sending your request to Bob Butler as well since he was involved with the group prior to my joining in early 1968 and was a close friend to Rick Nelke well before Hickory Hollow!! I will send my responses also as our paths criss-crossed many times over the years well beyond our work in Hickory Hollow!!
Thank you for your interest and compliment on the song & group.  I auditioned for the group as a drummer and occasional vocalist sometime in early 1968 after their original drummer, Mike Bennett left the group.  He is actually the drummer on the song HOME which they had recorded prior to my joining.  I had just returned to California from New York where I was working for Frankie Fontaine in his musical act with his sons!!  I posted a job request on a billboard in a music store in Encino, CA as a drummer looking for work.  Rick Nelke called me after reading the post and we arranged the audition. The chemistry was good among us and we started rehearsing cover songs so we could work the nightclub circuit.  After some time, and landing several club jobs, our manager suggested we come up with an original and if she thought it was good, she would put us into the studio to record the song.  I also played guitar and had written a simple song and played it for the group and everyone agreed we could work up a good rendition of it and that's what we did!!  Rehearsed until we were satisfied with the sound. Our group composition was 4 pieces: lead guitar; rhythm guitar; bass guitar and drums.  We all sang as well. We recorded in Gold Star Studios in Burbank, Ca. and completed the tract in a few hours and then added the lead vocal and background harmonies and the lead guitar.  Our manager had made contact with Dennis Penna who was looking for material to publish and he purchased the master tape which had HOME on it already completed and NEVER HAPPEN.  By the end of 1968 he had published, cut the record and released on his label: MUSITRON.  We recieved some air play and performed in several venues.  Within the next few years we went our separate ways but always keeping in touch and. occasionally performing together again.  I left to complete my collage education but Bob and I returned to work together again on a couple of country style songs I had written and Dennis wanted to do another record so we recorded again this time in Reseda, Ca. and he published, cut the record and released on his label: Cropduster records.  Again we recieved some airplay.  Both songs are also on You-Tube: BOURBON WHISKEY and GOD HELP TO KEEP US STRONG by Suede & Leather produced also with early rocker: FREDDY CANNON!  I hope this gives you enough info to add to your blog and thank you again for your interest!! ... "

Thanks a lot Frank
