Black Watch (Michigan - US, Garage / Psych Rock) - mało znane zespoły
Grupa z Cedar Springs (Michigan, US), pierwotnie znana jako The Nomads, działająca od połowy
lat 60-tych do 1968r. - w składzie :
- Jon Grannis - lead guitar, vocals (Jon Eric Grannis z Cedar Springs, ur. w 1947r.)
- Bill Shaw - keyboards (William [Bill] Russell Shaw z Cedar Springs, ur. 09.05. 1948r., uczeń
Cedar Springs High School - class 1966)

- Brad Bassett - drums (Bradley Lynn Bassett, ur. w maju 1948r.)
- Bob Rayce - bass (Robert Rayce z Cedar Springs, później wraz z żoną - Kirsten, osiadł w
Nykøbing Falster, Denmark). Jedyne wydawnictwo Black Watch - to singiel : - "Left Behind" - "I Wish I Had The Nerve", nagrany w 1967r. u Dave Kalmbach (Great Lakes Studios - Sparta, MI), wydany tego samego roku przez Fenton Records (studio nagrań i wytwórnia znajdowały się w tym samym budynku).
The Crystal Sect (Washington - US, Psych Rock) - mało znane zespoły
The Crystal Sect - bardzo ciekawa formacja drugiej połowy lat 60-tych, założona w West Seattle
(Washington, US) - piątka nastolatków z West Seattle High School :
- Tim Turner (vocals, rhythm guitar)
- Tom Hopp (bass)
- Marc Orsen (organ Farfisa, clavioline)
- Bob Rice (lead guitar)
- Dave Coleman (drums).
Niestety Crystal Sect nagrali i wydali tylko jeden singiel - dwa świetne nagrania :
- "Days & Weeks" (Tom Hopp)
- "What Time Is It ?" (Tim Turner)
(1968, EVO Records, E-711).
Udało mi się nawiązać kontakt z Tom Hopp, który przekazał mi zdjęcia zespołu opatrzone
komentarzem.
Tom Hopp - "...Hi Paul,
Attached is a photo of The Crystal Sect taken in 1967. The musicians are: Top row: Tom Hopp, bass guitar; Bob Rice, lead guitar; Tim Turner, rhythm guitar; bottom row: Mark Orsen, keyboards; and Dave Coleman, drums.
I wore that hat while lip-synching our song, "Days and Weeks” on the Lloyd Thaxton Show in 1967. I don’t know if any film of that survives.

..."
Tom Hopp - "...Paul,
Here is another photo, taken at the same time as the other in 1967. The Doors were a big hit in Los Angeles at this time. We played several of their songs. Mark Orsen (second from left) is a brilliant keyboardist. He could play every note of Ray Manzarek’s solo to Light My Fire, and still can play it today. By the way, his parents immigrated from Poland after World War II and we often heard him speak to them in Polish when the band was rehearsing at their home.

..."
Tom Hopp - "Paul,
Here is one more picture of The Crystal Sect. We got together in June 2019 for a 50th reunion of the band playing its old songs on stage at the Whiskey West nightclub in West Seattle. Amazingly we are all still alive and playing rock, jazz, and blues music professionally in the Seattle area. We are in different bands now. Tom and Mark are in “The Beaters,” Tim leads the “Tim Turner Band,” Bob has a solo act “Bobcat Bob,” and Dave plays with a number of local jazz bands.

Tom Hopp - "...Paul,
Perhaps you have already found "Days and Weeks" online. If not, here is a YouTube link. Listen to Mark Orsen’s great keyboard work, both on Farfisa organ and on clavioline (sounds like strings).

Here is a link to "What Time Is It?” written and sung by Tim Turner:
PreviewPreview2:43Crystal Sect - What Time Is It
The image shown briefly at the beginning of the song is NOT the Crystal Sect. I have no idea who they are.
-Tom
P.S. the name is not "Crystal Sect.” It is "Crystal Sect” with no period ..."
Many thanks to Tom Hopp for the materials and commentary.
- Frank Serio - vocals, organ Farfisa, bass (Frank O. Serio, ur. 28.11. 1952r., od połowy lat
70-tych poświęcił się farmacji - najpierw jako wolontariusz, a później znany i ceniony
farmaceuta z Auburn, Maine i Belgrade, ME)
- Joe Volpe - drums.
Grupa występowała lokalnie na potańcówkach, imprezach muzycznych (m.in. w St.John's
Preparatory School w Danvers, Mass.).
W okresie działalności (circa 1968 - 1970) nagrała i wydała niestety tylko jeden singiel
(oba nagrania bardzo trudne do zdobycia, strona "A" - praktycznie nieznana) :

- "Watch Out" (Zannini - Serio).
Sesja nagraniowa miała miejsce w 1969r. w AAA Studios w Dorchester, Mass. i tego samego
roku został wydany na etykiecie St. George International Records (nr kat. 7-202,440 / 7-202,441).

The Cholos (Missouri - US, Garage Rock) - mało znane zespoły
Miałem wielką przyjemność porozmawiać (internet) z gitarzystą tego zespołu Pete Starr. który
przekazał mi kilka cennych informacji o tej grupie.
The Cholos - został założony w Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri, US) w 1965r. - w składzie :
- D.J. Bohn - lead guitar
- Pete Starr - rhythm guitar
- Donald "Doc" Longfellow - drums
- Steve Vossberg - bass.
Grupa nagrała jeden singiel :
- "Last Laugh" (Don Longfellow - D.J. Bohn)
- "Whistling Surfer" (Pete Starr - D.J. Bohn),
wydany w 1966r. na etykiecie Farad Records (F 19A663 / F 19B663, ultra rzadkie wydawnictwo
w cenie 700 USD).
zdobycia.
Grupa The Cholos, została rozwiązana w 1967r.
Pete Starr :
"... I think we first got together in 1965. There was me, Donald "Doc" Longfellow (drums), Steve Vossberg (bass), and I can't recall the name of lead guitarist. We formed up at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. We were all Army brats. I think our single was released in 1966. It was the only recording we ever made. We dissolved in 1967. I went on to become a martial arts instructor and police officer (drug enforcement). I still teach some classes and I've authored 8 books now available on Amazon.com or through Barnes & Noble...and I'm still writing. 🙂 Althougj I've looked online, I haven't been able to find Doc Longfellow or Steve Vossberg..."
"...Yep- the B side was a tune I wrote. Thank you for reminding me of DJ's name, after all these years!!! ..."
Many thanks to Pete Starr for information about the band and the time devoted to me.
